  4. Question 16:
    AP = either 27 or 29

    27 + 29 = 56

    Can anyone clarify this thanks.

    1. No, AP is either 25 or 26.

      First, note that triangles ADQ and AQP are similar such that DQ/QA=AQ/AP and hence AQ^2=DQ*AP.
      Next, AD^2 + DQ^2 = AQ^2 = DQ*AP such that 12^2+DQ^2=DQ(34-DQ), yielding DQ=8 or 9 and hence AP = 25 or 26

  23. Hi, dont think the cutoff is so high cos my friend and i got 15 and we both got into round 2.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 15 for junior can get in ? I feel this year harder than last year.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I got around 16, but still got into round 2, so I don't think the cut-off is that high

  26. Anyone knows how to do question 4? The question is on tourist.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You got to realise (and prove) that if there are n tourists, the minimum would be (n - 7) tourists. Since the minimum number of tourists is 10, the minimum would thus be 10 - 7 = 3.

      Delete
  27. Just consider when n = 10 to 13, there is a way to get 3 tourists only.

  28. How's round 2? How many questions can you do ?
