NUS high selection test

Sorry I didn't update my blog for a long time because of my homework, but since today is Sunday, I am free. Yesterday, I went to NUS high, and NUS on the same day. The NUSH selection test was about Science and Maths. Too bad that there were 47 science questions and only 14 maths questions. The total science score was 45 but the maths was only 35. Those whose science was outstanding like Afiq would have no problem with it. The science question was all about weird stuff like molecue and some super bombastic big words that I didn't even know the meaning. Whereas, the maths was not so difficult compared to the science. The duration was only 2 hours and there were 202 questions! Just kidding, but there was a no. 202 question. I thought 2 hours was very little, so I rushed through my work. In the end, I still had like 45 min left. After the test, my family went to NUS, not the secondary school, for NUS homecoming scrumptious buffet lunch. The mouth-watering food was delicious, but the lime juice was disgusting.

Scrabble and SMO

Yesterday, I had the most difficult, or maybe the second most difficult Maths competition - SMO. It was so difficult that we were given 3 hours to complete it. It was so difficult that there were only 5 questions, and mostly proving type. Anyway, 2.5 hours after the start of the test, I left as I was not going to waste the other 1/2 hour doing nothing. After that, I ate chicken rice in the canteen. They have an ice-cream vending maching. I saw someone buy from it. It has a sucking thing to suck the ice-cream. After that, We went to look for the scrabblers. They were at the MPH(Multi Purpose Hall). We walked for so long until we reached the MPH. In the end, we went to the wrong MPH! I was so upset and frustrated that I felt like going home without knowing the scrabble results. We took a shuttle bus there instead. After that, we sort of like, did not do anything else. Just to tell you, Both competitions were held at NUS but were more than 1 km apart. Weird right? The whole NUS is more than a few kilometres long and wide, such that they need a shuttle bus to travel from one place to another, there are even public buses driving to and fro in the school.

I am not in the scrabble team (finals) and I am not playing.

School reopens

School reopens! You know what that means. It means the terrible stress has begun once again. Of course that's not a good thing, but there's still some, or perhaps, a few good things. Let's look at the bright side, we are now able to meet our friends again. We could chit-chat all day. At home I could only play computer for 1 hour a day, but in school, sometimes we are allowed to go to the computer lab to update our blogs, that means I get more computer time, too bad I cannot play computer games in school. Now I'm using the computer lab to update my blog.

Sungei Buloh trip

Today, I went to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve with my classmates. Actually, I didn't feel like going as my leg was painful and I was "crippled". My mother asked me to bring the cookies and cakes that she had just made. I limped from home all the way to school. Then we took the bus all the way to Sungei Buloh. The bus was so slow that it took almost half an hour to reach there. I could see many cars which were faster than ours, even the other buses were faster. When we reached there, I limped again to the visitor centre and sat down to rest. All my friends were asking me the same question - what happened to my leg. I saw some small crabs and mudskippers over there, there was one mudskipper about 50 cm long. The guide told us the giant mudskipper was called the giant mudskipper. We proceeded on and saw some kingfishers on the way. We also saw some weird trees with weird names. One of the trees was called the Blind-Your-Eyes, the guide told us it might blind our eyes in some ways. Some of the trees had pencil roots which were roots that looked like pencils sticking out of the ground. They were to absorb oxygen and it could grow to another tree. When the little roots slowly grew into big ones, the original ones would eventually rot away.

The trip was a little boring and I don't think I want to go there again. There was once when I was standing on a wooden plank and didn't know there were ants until my leg itched.

A Windy Day at East Coast Park

This morning my family went to East Coast Park to ride bicycles. Unfortunately it rained most of the time. It was so windy ... (see how I held on to my umbrella).



We were totally drenched, and had to leave after an hour as the rain did not stop. We had waffle ice cream (delicious!) at Galare - the waffle was at half price on Tuesday. So lucky!

Ideas?!

No! I'm running out of ideas. I can't think of anything else to blog about. If mam looks at this, she will... I don't know what she will say. She will definitely call me out in the computer lab just like my friends. Ok, now I have to calm down and think of an idea. Ummm...

Oh! I've got an idea. Let me talk about the Hong Kong trip in July. I know I have not been there yet as it is in July and now is only June but I've been there 1 1/2 years ago. There is this boy, Wei Liang, who is also selected for the Hong Kong trip by RI, but he rejected it. Instead, he joined the Hwa Chong team. He got second for both the RI and Hwa Chong competitions. Too bad I'm alone as my mother may not be going with me. I think there is no computer over there so I cannot blog during those few days.

Yay!

Yay! I have the card thingy called either the prepaid card or a-cash card. Guess where I got it. After many days of consideration, I bought something. Actually, I still think that I think I regret it. The something I bought is in the picture below.

Schools on school holidays

There is still 'schooling' during the school holidays. It takes up about half of our school holidays. We deserve the holidays after all our hard work, but it seems like the holidays are still far away.

On the first week, we have to go to school on the 5 weekdays excluding Vesak day on Thursday. Yet, we have to stay in school from 8 to 5.30 in the afternoon. It's like worse than normal days. However, I don't have to go, because...

On Monday, I attended the Hwa Chong training for Maths. They just informed me about it on Saturday. Anyway, I lost my pencil case and my water bottle in room 2, the room where I took the APMOPS exam. Hwa Chong said someone had found the pencil case and passed it to a sec 4 student, but then they could not contact him. They are just too much (guo fen)!

On Tuesday, all the MO students and I have to take part in the SMO, a kind of Maths competition organised by NUS for sec 2 students, but we are 'kei kiang' for participating in it. The competition is really really really very very very difficult. I am just exaggerating.

On Wednesday, there is a selection test in RI. It is to select 4 out of 12 pupils from many schools to take part in the competition held in Hong Kong. I am one of the 12 pupils.

On Friday, I also have to attend the Hwa Chong training. So I will have to miss all my suplementary during the school holidays.

Zoo trip

Yesterday we went to the zoo. I don't know whether the main purpose of the trip is to learn about the animals or to celebrate our achievements. Some animals were not moving, some just moved left and right. I thought there were only animals in the zoo, but I saw many plants, including a gigantic water lily. Some of my friends threw coins onto them. Clarence lent me 10 cents to throw, but I just kept it, then I returned it. I also saw the pumpkin plant. The pumpkin plant has no pumpkin, I wonder why it was placed there. I saw polar bears but they don't have any green thingy. The display board explains that the green thingy is the algae that grows on them because of the sunlight. I went to one place that looked like the greenhouse. There were bats, sloth and butterflies. The butterflies just flew here and there like no one's business. The bats were so cool. When two of them wanted to eat the same fruits, they fought with each other. They fought until one fell down. I even spotted one of them peeing. It's like a water fountain. So cool!

Exams are over!

Exams are finally over! I have always wanted for this moment to come. The greatest fear and sufferings are gone for now. But now it's time for the second greatest fear and sufferings, receiving our marks... Which is worse? I don't know. After that is the third greatest fear and sufferings, scoldings from our teachers and our parents. We always did our best and they say it's still not enough. This is so bad, 3 times worse than the exams.

SA1 Exams, so stressful

I hate exams. I wonder who likes exams, if someones likes I think something must be wrong with that person. There is nothing useful about exams. They only gives us stress, disturbance, we cannot play anything at all.

Oral exams : when waiting for my turn, it's like waiting for my turn for injection. So bad, I was the 3rd last. During oral, I was so nervous that I stumbled at least 10 words.

Listening : My hearing had something wrong. The English one - all the options were so close. The Chinese one - I didn't understand some parts, and the options were also so close.

Compo exams : We were FORCED to write AT LEAST 3 PAGES. It's like impossible to write in 1 hour. Then still must check 3 pages for grammar mistakes. Write 1 page already took half an hour when practising. I will go mad if I must write 3 pages in 1 hr only. Mother tongue, even worse. Every sentence must check at least 1 word in the dictionary. Others can use ming ti or kan tu, but I don't know ming ti, so must choose kan tu. And less than 1h to write!

English : The 2nd worst subject. My teacher said close passage cannot be taught, comprehension cannot be taught, vocab also cannot be taught, so we must read books. Only grammar and synthesis can be learnt. So there is nothing to learn for English.

Maths : There is nothing to learn. It is easy but I can be careless. Really really very very very very very very very very very careless. Even the super extremely easy question I may get it wrong.

Science : Too many big scientific words. Cannot memorise but can common sense. Science is another subject that I don't have to learn. However, the open ended questions are so... The answers I write can quite logical, but they can mark me wrong, it's so cheating.

Chinese : My worst subject ever. Must memorise the strokes, the words, the meaning, and their pei ci. English has only 1 graphic stimulus which is very easy, 1 MCQ and 1 OE comprehention. Chinese has 1 graphic stimulus 2 MCQ and 2 OE comprehension. Sometimes it has 3 OE.

QPS records

Before 2006, QPS had never won any silver in the SMOPS. In 2006, my sister (Lim Min) won a silver. She had broken a record. But this year, our class has broken the greatest record ever. Our class finally achieved 2 bronzes, 1 silver, 1 gold(a record) and 1 platinum(another record). QPS had achieved all kinds of awards in the SMOPS. Yay, we will have another celebration but i don't know when.
